[vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_section title="Español" tab_id="español"][vc_column_text]Caracas, 8 de abril de 2020.– Un avión con 90 toneladas de suministros sanitarios, agua, higiene y educación llega hoy al país como parte de la respuesta de las Naciones Unidas contra la COVID-19 en Venezuela.
“Este es el primer envío humanitario de las Naciones Unidas en apoyo a la respuesta del brote de COVID-19 en Venezuela. En un esfuerzo conjunto, UNICEF, la OPS/OMS y el UNFPA están trayendo suministros vitales para ser distribuidos en los centros de salud y en las comunidades más vulnerables”, dijo Peter Grohmann, Coordinador Residente de la ONU y Coordinador Humanitario en Venezuela. “Quiero agradecer a UNICEF por su gestión para logar este envío que ayudará a salvar vidas”.
El envío incluye 28.000 equipos de protección personal para los trabajadores sanitarios de primera línea, concentradores de oxígeno, camas pediátricas, productos para el control de la calidad del agua y kits de higiene, entre otros. Los suministros son financiados por la comunidad internacional de donantes, el Fondo Central de Respuesta a Emergencia de las Naciones Unidas (CERF en inglés) y fondos propios de las agencias ONU.
“Estos suministros para niños, mujeres y familias apoyarán en una fase inicial a 14 hospitales designados para la respuesta a la COVID-19, así como 50 clínicas ambulatorias y centros de desarrollo infantil”, dijo Herve Ludovic de Lys, Representante de UNICEF en Venezuela.
En apoyo a los esfuerzos nacionales para responder a la pandemia mundial, el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas y sus socios están solicitando 61 millones de dólares para ampliar su respuesta humanitaria en el marco del Plan de prevención y atención al COVID-19 en Venezuela. El Plan se centra en el fortalecimiento de la capacidad del sistema de salud para identificar y tratar rápidamente a los pacientes; abastecimiento de agua, higiene y saneamiento en los hospitales y comunidades priorizados y el suministro de información oportuna y fiable al público para evitar la transmisión del virus. El Plan también procura asegurar que otros programas humanitarios fundamentales puedan continuar, entre ellos los relativos a la seguridad alimentaria, la nutrición, la protección y la educación.
Las Naciones Unidas hacen un llamado a la solidaridad, al acceso y al aumento de las contribuciones financieras para ayudar a combatir la pandemia y salvar vidas, al tiempo que instan a los donantes a mantener la financiación al Plan de Respuesta Humanitaria existente.
El Secretario General ha pedido un alto al fuego mundial inmediato en todos los rincones del mundo y ha llamado a todos los actores a poner en encierro los conflictos y unir fuerzas para centrarnos juntos en la verdadera lucha contra la pandemia mundial. Las Naciones Unidas trabajan sobre la base de los principios humanitarios de humanidad, neutralidad, imparcialidad e independencia y apelan a todos los sectores a no politizar la acción humanitaria.

A plane carrying 90 tons of health, water, hygiene and sanitation, and education supplies arrives in Venezuela today as part of the United Nations’ response against COVID-19.
Caracas April 8, 2020. - “This is the first United Nations humanitarian shipment in support of the Venezuela COVID-19 outbreak. In a joint effort, UNICEF, PAHO/WHO and UNFPA are bringing vital supplies to be distributed to health centers and in the most vulnerable communities”, said Peter Grohmann, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Venezuela. “I would like to thank UNICEF for coordinating this lifesaving cargo flight.”
The shipment includes 28,000 Personal Protective Equipment kits for health workers on the frontline, oxygen concentrators, pediatric beds, water quality control products and hygiene kits, among others. The supplies are financed by the international donor community, the UN Central Emergency Response Fund and the UN Agencies’ own funds.
“These supplies for children, women and vulnerable families will support 14 designated hospitals, 50 outpatient clinics and child development centers as part of the first phase of the COVID-19 response”, said Herve Ludovic de Lys, UNICEF Representative in Venezuela.
In support of national efforts to respond to the global pandemic, the UN system and partners are appealing for US$61 million to scale up its humanitarian response under the COVID-19 Prevention and Response Plan in Venezuela. The Plan focuses on strengthening the capacity of the health system to quickly identify and treat COVID-19 patients; supplying water, hygiene and sanitation in prioritized hospitals and communities and providing timely and trustworthy information to the public to prevent the spread of the virus. The Plan also seeks to ensure other critical humanitarian programmes can continue, including for food security, nutrition, protection, and education among others.
The UN is calling for solidarity, access and increased funding to help combat the pandemic and save lives, while urging donors to sustain funding to the existing Humanitarian Response Plan.
The Secretary-General has called for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world and all sectors to put conflicts aside and to join forces to focus together on the true fight against the global pandemic. The United Nations works based on the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence and calls on all actors not to politicize humanitarian action.
